Great pictures Joanie. Love the bubblegum and the falls. I won't get the time to try one I'm afraid as my family have arrived but will periodically check in to see how everyone is doing. Merry Christmas everyone and I wish you all the best for 2008. Hugs from Andrea!

Thank you for the pics Joanie. I won't have time to tackle any of these before Christmas Day - I haven't even started my Christmas shopping! (... happens ot me every year without fail! ) - but after that I should have more time. A very merry Christmas to you too sweetie and to all the challengers.

Wonderful job on the ginger jar, Nair! It looks like a tough one to me with all those flowers and vines etc. all over it and then the added challenge of the battenberg lace cloth! Way to go!

My watercolour book has not arrived yet but I had a couple of hours on my hands and thought I would do the river in watercolours... even for the sake of having something to compare my progress with - if I do make progress eventually.

Hey Nair and Rose, you are fast. Wonderful work, I too love the details Nair. And the watercolors are nice Rose. ;D It really doesn't look like wc - and this is what I like very much. and you really think you need to make any progress? Which brand did you use?

Martina I have a tiny box of Winsor and Newton pans. It's meant to be a portable box so it opens up into three sections, two of them being palettes for mixing colours. Closed it's small enough to slip into your handbag or even your pocket.

Nice, Rose! Those colors are really that brilliant in the fall in the Upper Peninsula Michigan in the fall. That is why we go there every year.
Beautiful

Gorgeous colors, Rose! I can't see the details cause it's so small but it looks like all of your other work - beautiful!
And kudos for it really being a challenge with a new medium!

I can't see the details cause it's so smal Trick of the trade Jan! This was a quicky done last night instead of watching TV. It's the sort of thing you have to look at from a distance for it to make any sort of sense... that's the reason for the small scan... I wasn't looking for detail which is my normal style but more to research colour mixing and the various shades of the same hue, like different greens and yellows and so on. Also I was trying to convince myself that it is possible to mix watercolours without ending up with mud all the time which had been my experience so far. Can't wait for the book I ordered to get here though. My fascination with watercolours is growing by the minute.

You're right, wc is supposed to be fairly loose & almost interpretive although realistic detail can also be gotten. Glad to have you aboard as a member of the wc fan club - they're frustrating yet addictive! lol

I restricted myself to use only the painting knife on this one (trying to learn more skills!). The painting is still really wet, and the blues will dry much darker which should look better. This will probably be the last post till 2008, so everyone have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!! 8x10, oil on canvas board.

Here's another wc victim - or better a watersoluble pencils victim. I tried my Inktense out in combination with my Primas and two Sanford wc pencils (I only have three ;D) and it worked very good. My result isn't very good - not as bad as the photo, I am not very happy with it - but I think it is okay for my first combi work with wc pencils and CPs.
