Good one, Martina! I don't know why your aren't happy with it - it has lots of good color, the perspective looks right-on with the far hills looking lighter, etc. & the water looks really, really good. What's the matter with it?

Nice Martina! So tell us how you went about it. Did you first lay down the water solubles and then went over it with the Prismas? Guys, I have not as yet asked anyone to put up a new challenge on Tuesday. First of all I thought a few of us might be suffering from a hangover But mostly I wanted to have your opinions about whether we should change the format of the challenges. Should we keep it as it is with several references or should we try having just one reference and we all try to interpret it in individual ways. Would that make it more challenging and perhaps more exciting do you think? Over to you guys... tell me what you think and let's have a few volunteers for the upcoming challenges. I know both Nair and Ema offered some time ago ... so I'll be waiting to hear from you.

I like having different options for the pictures. I enjoy doing them. I am still working on November's and might start Dec 15th today.

Thanks Jan and Rose. Yes, I first used my wc pencils for layering the sky and the ground of the trees and the water and after that I rendered the trees and the water and the whatevers. At the end I used some white acrylics to make the waterfall and some highlights in the water. I must say that I really love to use mixed media. As for the challenges - I myself would love to only have one reference pic - even if it would be a portrait. And exactly for the reasons you mentioned, Rose - it would be more challenging and exciting. And btw it would be easier to decide ........

I really don't like the photogragh. I will try to take a better one in the sunlight tomorrow. At least I hope it is the photograph and not my painting that looks so bad.

I agree with Tim..................it looks very much like an impressionist painting! Good job, Laura, I like it alot. Rose.........................I'll go along with whatever everyone else decides that they like.

Lasi, this is extremely beautiful!!! I love it and I wonder how this could be better on another photo - it is awfully good. As Tim said - like Monet.

Ok boys and girls................I'm still practicing but I'm willing to show this one..................although I can see all the mistakes in it. My biggest mistake once again is overworking the paint. I also haven't used what I have learned from my watercolor books.............I've used all the techniques learned in acrylics instead of watercolor. arrrrrrghhhhh I welcome Jan's critique as she is experienced in watercolors and anyone else who wants to chime in. It's a little late for the challenge but I wanted to try this one. BTW, this is my third rendering of this picture. You would think I would have gotten it right by now. LOL Please don't laugh too hard. ;D ;D ;D

Sorry I missed this thread originally. Everyone did a great job. Lasi yours is awesome, I love it. Joanie, I love yours too, the tablecloth looks so fragile and the shading on the pots is great and I like the background colours too! Well done everyone.

looks good to me Joanie...if you mean you've overworked the background colors??...I like the colors and the way it looks. Very intricate painting, with the lace, and the pattern of the porcelain. Couldn't have been easy to do, especially with runny wet color paint. I like it!

I don't know what there is to laugh about Joanie - unless it is the great cheeky personality of your jar! This is a great piece which certainly can't have been at all easy to pull off. You did admirably well. I don't think there is ever a right or wrong way of doing things. What matters is the final result and yours my friend is extremely pleasing!

Thanks everyone................I appreciate your comments.
Rose, that jar is a funny looking one isn't it? LOL It looks like it should be a character in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It has little arms and legs etc. You can just picture it animated and walking around shouting out orders with its little arms on its hips! LOL Maybe that's what attracted me to buying it in the first place! ;D
I think I'll put aside the watercolors for now and I'm working on a pastel.
It feels good to be doing my art again after being in such a slump. ;D ;D ;D

Joanie! Don't you dare put those watercolors away! You're doing a great job with them although I don't know why you wanted a response from me - I know I'm not the best with them. I don't paint in a traditional watercolor way & think I'd actually do better with gouache.
I think people who have a background in oil/acrylic have more trouble with w/c since the method is the reverse of the other two mediums.
I honestly think you've done a great job on this. You claim to know nothing about w/c but it looks good. I like your "cheeky" little jar - it has a character of its own! To be honest, I don't really like the photo-realistic paintings that I sometimes see & feel that there ought to be some stamp of the artist in the painting or just frame the photo.
All I can say is keep going with the w/c, don't put them away - maybe we can learn together!

Thanks so much, Jan. The words of encouragement really do help.
Like I said, this was my 3rd attempt at this same picture. I struggled with it for 3 days in a row. It really zapped me of a lot of energy.
I'm doing a pastel now, that I've been wanting to do for a long time. It's more relaxing and will give me a break from the watercolors. I'm not giving up..................just taking a break for my brain! LOL
