Thank you Grampy. Now here's an interesting one for you. This is very typical of a brief movement in art history.

It's the Cubanist period where everyone had to paint a young Fidel Castro shortly before he started to smoke cigars?

II don't know why but Toulouse Lautrec comes to my mind.... don't know a painting painted like this by him.
The subject looks like Manet.

Tim: In the Cubanist period everyone had to paint Che Guevara... and they all came up with the same painting which is now so common it's even used on the sugar packets they give you with your coffee at the bistro!! No Nair I'm afraid it's not... neither the painter nor the subject of the painting.... although the subject is also a painter who is the biggest name in this period. BTW Nair - we have sent you several PMs about the Christmas Card exchange - please check your inbox because I need a reply urgently. Thanks. As for the rest of you.... give it another try and then I'll give another clue.

It's not Guagin Martina.. but you are indeed very close ... it is the same period.
Remember what I said... a short lived and rather limited period but interesting in how it liberated the bold, almost strident, use of colour... the way the artist perceived it not the way it was conventionally thought to be.
