The latest postings from Joanie and Andrea have encouraged me to try drafting film again. This time I used some Chartpak brand that was given to me by someone who used it where my husband works. Since drafting by hand is just about obsolete, they had no more need for this. It's an ok film but is kind of weird in that one side is adhesive so when you peel off the backing and attach the film to it's paper backing, you can get bubbles. This time it worked out ok. Anyway, here's a rosebud from a ref I got from either MorgueFile or the Stock Xchng: I'm still not convinced that I like cp but the film is certainly faster than using paper and I do like that! Note: the ref is from the Stock Xchge and the photo was taken by Kalilo.

Great job Jan, it looks very delicate. I'm doing a CP double portrait on paper now and it's so much slower than film. It's going to take me weeks! It's good to be back doing art again though.

Great picture, Jan. I know what kind of drafting film you are talking about. You can still purchase it at Hobby Lobby. Yes, drafting film IS faster than regular paper with CP's......probably because you can't use as many layers. Glad to see you drawing again! ;D P.S. - I'm heading towards the east coast this Sunday - you'll have to let me know how the weather has been out your way. It's been raining and flooding here for a couple weeks now. We are headed for Savannah, Georgia and Charleston S.C. with a stop at either Nashville or Knoxville to Jerry's Artarama! wooo hoooo

You all are very encouraging but I couldn't get the shading right, especially on the rose itself. I didn't have a color that was a deep enough red & green was just yukky. I think I ended up using a little black - oh no!
Joanie, it went from near 80 degrees last Thursday or Friday to in the forties this past weekend! It's in that "who knows what the weather will do next" spring pattern! I haven't seen a weather report and I'm sure Laura would be able to tell you better than I could anyway. (BTW - where is that Laura??!!!)
You could come this way and stop at the Jerry's in Raleigh! We're easy to find & I know how to get to Jerry's (sort of - lol!) It's such fun to meet other LMA'ers!
Oh, well, have a good time on your trip - I wondered if you were getting any flooding in your area. I hope not! So far, my Dad's house is ok & I think it will be.

This is really pretty Jan. I haven't tried CPs on film. Well actually what I have is the very thin Denril so I don't know how good that will be. I only used it for a small graphite drawing and I did notice is sort of marked if the pencil was too sharp so really I don't know if it is worth attempting anything ambitious with it. Andrea: Good luck with your portrait. That said I know you don't really need any luck - you're a pro with CPs! Joanie - have a great time on your vacation. Now wouldn't it be fun to meet up with someone while out there?! And don't forget to take pics.

I like it very much, Jan. I've read somehere that you can do more shading with applying the CPs also on the backside of the film (if rough enough).
But I am not sure, if this beauty needs more shading.

Thank you Rose and Laura and I'm glad you like it Martina. Unfortunately, this type of drafting film has an adhesive back so it can't be worked on the backside. It was given to me so I wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth! It's been good to practice on so I can save the Duralar for when I learn more!
