Rose, I think w/c is one of the hardest mediums there is. I've been trying to work on backgrounds and can't seem to do anything but make a mess with them! So, to make you feel better & "in the spirit of" here's my latest mess! Now I'm off to find a good tutorial on backgrounds!

Well I'm not in to w/c yet so I can not say but it looks good to me Jan as did Rose.

I wish my messes were half as good as that Jan . I do see a few hard lines on the bottom leaf but other than that I can's see anything wrong. Are you perhaps unhappy with the colour you chose for the background? Even if it is a dark background it's not really providing much of a contrast to the flower. Do let us know if you find anything interesting about backgrounds. They're sure to come in handy for any medium.

The problem is that the colors are sort of muddy as well as the value being pretty much the same all over the painting. I'm trying to get a background that is subtle but is clear and transparent.
Haven't found anything that has really helped me yet but I'm still looking. I'll keep you posted.
