Hey guys, here are the photos for the next challenge. I hope you like them.If you need black-and-whites, just yell.
You can do what you want with the photos - flip, crop or whatever - except the basecap - the basecap is a "draw-exactly-what-you-see" project. Main thing as always: Have fun.

Martina, I took your lemons and tried to come up with a composition. Don't know how far I've succeeded but I sure did enjoy it! I think I now know where this second year will be taking me. Still life with lemons - pastels on ingres paper 9x12

OMG Rose - I thought you posted Martina's photograph at first glance! What a wonderful piece of work. I am so attracted to this photo also. It seems you and I have the same taste in pictures as we always want to draw/paint the same things. LOL If I can get myself motivated and well enough #sick# to do some artwork I'm going to try it.

It is very nice & you must have flown through it to be finished so quickly! Nice comp too!
I want something like that in my kitchen but am not sure I'll do it. I can't figure out how to crop it or arrange it right now - we'll see!

Great job on your still life Rose. The bowl is brilliant, love those reflections, the lemons are lovely too. I like the window but must admit to finding the green wall a little distracting. I think its the colour; perhaps adding some colours from the foreground into the wall, would help? Just my opinion, though!

Thank you all for your comments and input. Andrea - the only reason I chose a green for the wall was because I wanted a complimentary colour that would emphasize the red of the bowl. What certainly wasn't working was the line of darker green which was supposed to be the inner wall... yes, that was jarring and creating a distraction. I have now removed it and I've also touched up the bottom of the bowl which was looking a little asymmetrical in places and rather pasted on in others. Now I think I have the final version. But you know, working on this ingres paper simply brings home the superiority of sanded paper for pastels. Pity it's not so easily available to me. I know I can order it from the US but I end up paying more than double the cost by the time it reaches me. Martina: I really wish we could work on our Operation Creativity. Maybe we can do so once everyone has more time to concentrate on it and we all decide on a reference.

That looks great, removing that extra wall has certainly done the trick. I like the darkened shadow on the wall too. Beautiful.

I'm not entirely happy with this LOL ( guess that's what you get when you only spend and hour and a half) I did it with a 6H, ink and charcoal and I made it enormous . I printed the picture so large that I had to draw it large .I feel that I need to be working on a smaller scale then I can pay more attention to detail.

Well I think you did a great job to say you spent only a short amount of time on it. You got a good range of values and have portrayed the feathers well and it certainly looks like the parrot in the photo. Pretty Polly!
I'm going to give it a try once I've finished my Christmas card.

Good job Tim! I like your charcoal work - I'm hopeless at it. I smudge everywhere except where I should. I'm attempting the parrot in acrylics - I have a feeling I'll either take a month to finish it or give up completely. All I've done so far is lay down the sketch and painted in some background... even that I have to start all over again. Funny isn't it... some paintings just flow like they did on Saturday and some just don't seem to work from the word go! Oh well... as the Italians say... not all doughnuts turn out with a hole! ;D

TIM!!! He is beautiful!! I love the way you let his pecker shine - and I love the cheeky look of his eye - very parrot-like! He looks exactly like our male parrot (though it is a grey guy) a minute before he let his steam-engine whistle flow. *ouch-my-ears* Very well done! Tim said: Same here. My mind is totally blank concerning the Xmas card. I started two times and both landed in the ash-tray. So step-by-step and day-by-day my panic is growing...... Rose, lol - cool saying of the italians!! I know what you mean - for some paintings I need so much mre power and self-control to go on and other are growing like made for me.

Thank you Miranda. I've more or less finished the parrot but now I don't like the background so I'll have to do it again in some other colour.

I think my parrot is done. This little fellow looks a little better in person but this shot of it is the best I could do. Acrylics on paper 10x12 BTW I took the liberty of flipping the birdie (oh my gosh - did I just say that! ) ... since I'm right handed I find it easier to draw it this way.

I have had a fit of the giggles all morning and most likely because as most of you know that deep down most men are 12 years old ...our humour really doesn't progress beyond bodily function humour etc etc . So I must apologize to Martina for I am sure this was lost in translation " He is beautiful!! I love the way you let his pecker shine" and flipping the bird . I am apologizing now if offend anyone but I can't stop laughing LOL I am sorry On a more serious note I find it fascinating Rose that you flipped the bird ...I am right handed as well but I do the vast majority of sports i.e. golf , baseball, hockey etc from the left
