Well done Joanie, this is looking good so far. I love the sand and the shadow on the sand and the clothing. His back needs straightening a bit though and perhaps some more variation on the hair colour. Good job though.

This is pretty good Joanie. Maybe you could make the sand surrounding the boy (especially at the back) a little darker so the kid's outline would be better defined. The texture of the hair is very well done, as is the sea and water. Go on girlie.... show them all you got!

I don't know why you say that this is not good - I like it verrrrry much. What I noticed is the shadow - I think shadows always are very dark. This shadow looks more like the little boy just had p...

Thanks everyone - I meant to post this in the critique forum. Wooooops Here's what I was going for: Simplicity. Everything I've read about watercolors involves Simplicity. I am now afraid of overworking the picture by making too many changes. All my books say to "imply" the whole object and the viewer's eye will take over and supply the rest of the picture. This is why the face is not detailed or some of the other parts. Martina - you just crack me up with your comments. I love it. ;D ;D ;D Andrea - he has a little bump in his shirt at the back but I think I overdid it. LOL Are you suggesting more brown in his hair? Rose - I can add more shadow and darken it.

I meant to post this in the critique forum. Wooooops I'm glad you realise that Missy! You put me in a moral quandary! I don't usually like to critique artwork in the gallery.

This is from the December 15th challenge. 9x12 watercolor on watercolor paper. I'm not real pleased with it but I keep struggling with those watercolors! LOL

I'm not real pleased with it Suit yourself Joanie - I love it! I think it has an amazing three dimensional feel to it - certainly not something easily achieved in watercolours. And I won't even start on all the detail you have here. Very well done!

Oh Joanie, I would be totally pleased with this wc painting!!!
It is great - fragile, colorful and it has a "special shiny aura" (I don't know how to say it in different words).
I like it very much.

While cleaning and going through stuff the other day, I found this picture buried away. It was painted in 1999 with watercolor pencils on watercolor paper. The picture was from an instruction book by Sue Scheewe.
