Ivan
This is my grandson Ivan, my first portrait in pastels. It was very challenging and the new paper I used did not co-operate at all but on the whole I'm tolerable satisfied with it. Pastels continue to be on the way to becoming my medium of choice... now what I need is paper that behaves.
Soft pastels on Winsor&Newton Tints paper. 16x12 approx
Nellie's boy
Male Profile
... from a reference.... basically a painting with shaved graphite and tortillon... an experiment.
The Brothers
Nick and Ben - my two nephews in Australia.
I did this for their mother.
After the Workout
I attempted this portrait because of the many challenges that the reference presented me with... the very dark shadows, the glare on the wet skin, the brilliant white towel. Maybe the feeling of wetness did not come through - though I did give the girl a couple of sweat drops just above the neckline. ;D, but I think the towel worked pretty well as did the shadows.
A very good exercise - I learned a lot from this.
Andrew
This started out as practice but I ended up growing fond of it!
Alex
My main work for a Portrait Class. Done in HB, 2B, 3B, 5B and 8B pencils.
Basque
Three part harmony in Lyra Rembrandt dark skin tones. 9x8. Entered for a challenge on WetCanvas.
SweetSilverBird Deborah
With thanks to my best friend.
And Tomorrow?
Graphite on A3 Bristol smooth using HB, 2B, and 3B wooden pencils and HB and 2B mechanincal pencils for the hair. Finished size 15x12. This took about 30 hours.
