Okay kiddies, here's a portion of a very very very famous piece of art. No hints for starters. The portion that is here is the most celebrated part of the picture. Good luck!

This is a really exquisite detail that you chose Birdie. I know the answer to the quiz but will for the moment give time to others to come on line and guess. ..... ok so you have 24 hours

Got it!
It's The Arnolfini Portrait Jan van Eyck
Wooo Hoooo! I had seen this one a billion times but never paid attention to the name of it or who painted it.
I always found it interesting that a woman was actually painted while pregnant! Back in the old days - you hardly ever saw pictures of a pregnant woman. ;D

Ha! Ha! This took a little reasoning. I may or may not have seen this painting before but immediately it struck me like something out of Dante's Inferno - very allegorical. And I at once thought of the Dutch painters - Brueghel perhaps. But then again, though very allegorical, Brueghel was not so stark in his portrayals. So who else but Bosch!
So here's my answer: Hieronymus Bosch - Christ Carrying the Cross - 1490
