Magnolia Sprig
My first ever attempt using soft pastels.... this was in the beginning of March 2007
Allsorts
The first pastel painting I ever did. Done in a class taught by Canadian pastelist Dianna Ponting on Wetcanvas.
Tomatoes
Soft pastels on medium grain (ingres) paper. 11X8 1/2... done for a Drawing Challenge from a reference provided - March 2007.
Pewter and onions
I lost a couple of nuts doing this!
Thai Eggplants
Soft pastels on ingres paper. 11x8 1/2
Fire
A quickie done in compressed chalk and pastel pencils on black paper for a Drawing Challenge in March 2007. A loose style is fun too!
Easter Basket
An Easter card for my friends in 2007 - Pastel pencils and soft pastels for the background. 9x12
Fly Mushroom
Soft pastels on ingres paper - done for a Drawing Challenge in April 2007 from a reference provided. I enjoyed the looseness of this one. I think this was the first thing I drew standing up - I think it helped the exuberance of the piece!
Bob
Done for a Drawing Challenge in May 2007 from a reference provided. This was the first time I attempted a dog in pastels.... actually I don't recall ever having drawn a dog before, in any medium. This was fun!
Soft pastel sticks and pencils on blue ingress paper, finished size 11x8
Ivan
My first portrait in pastels. It was very challenging and the new paper I used did not co-operate at all but on the whole I'm tolerable satisfied with it. Soft pastels on Winsor&Newton Tints paper. 16x12 approx.
Kids on the beach
Soft pastels and pastel pencils. This was a totally crazy project from start to finish. To begin with it's tiny - just 8x8 so getting in all the detail was murder. It's mostly pastel pencils with some sticks for the larger areas. And the support... that's the craziest part. I did this on the finest industrial sandpaper I could find.
Sleeping Tiger
This was done for the first LMA Drawing Challenge in June 2007.
Different brands of hard and soft pastel sticks and some pencils on industrial sand paper. Finished size 9x8.
Reproduction of Mary Cassatt's The Boating Party, done for a challenge in June 2007. Various brands of soft pastels and some pencils on Art Spectrum sanded paper. 9 x 12.
Lonely Gondolere
Soft Pastels on Ingress paper. 12x9 Something loose, done pretty quickly for a Let's Make Art Challenge in August 2007.
